From Bengaluru (about 280–300 km, 5–6 hours)
The usual route is Bengaluru – Mysuru – Gundlupet – Bandipur – Muthanga – Sultan Bathery on NH766. Our estate is just past Sultan Bathery, towards Kalpetta.
- Night ban: the Bandipur stretch of NH766 is closed to private vehicles at night, from about 9 PM to 6 AM (some sources say 8:30 PM). Plan to clear the forest checkpoints well before then.
- Watch for animals crossing between Gundlupet and Sultan Bathery, and for evening mist in Wayanad.
- An alternative via Hunsur, Kutta and Kattikulam reaches north Wayanad and avoids Bandipur, but takes longer.
From Kozhikode (about 85 km to Kalpetta, 2.5–3 hours)
NH766 climbs from Adivaram to Lakkidi through the Thamarassery ghat: nine hairpin bends over about 14 km. Stop at the Lakkidi viewpoint and the Chain Tree at the top. In the monsoon, drive the ghat in daylight; keep to low gears downhill and do not stop on the bends.
By air
- Calicut (Kozhikode) International Airport: about 90–95 km from Kalpetta.
- Kannur International Airport: about 100 km from Kalpetta, closer to north Wayanad.
- Bengaluru: the most flights, then the drive above.
By train and bus
- Wayanad has no railway. The nearest big station is Kozhikode (CLT), about 85 km from Kalpetta; Mysuru is the option from the Karnataka side.
- KSRTC runs overnight Bengaluru–Kozhikode buses through Sultan Bathery and Kalpetta, and buses run between Kozhikode and Kalpetta all day. Check current timings on the KSRTC site before travelling.
Getting around
Distances inside Wayanad are short but the roads wind. Most guests self-drive or hire a taxi for the day; ask us and we can suggest a local driver.
