Quick answerLakkidi, at the top of the Thamarassery ghat near Vythiri, looks down over the nine hairpin bends climbing into Wayanad. It is a free roadside stop, best in clear weather between October and May and early in the morning.
Our tip
A short trek near Vythiri through shola forest, with wide views across coffee valleys. Far fewer people than Chembra. Best before 9 AM, while the mist is still in the valleys. A calm, beautiful alternative to the bigger treks. From our guest guidebook

What to expect
Lakkidi sits at about 700 m, where the road from Kozhikode tops out after nine hairpin bends. From the edge you see the ghat road winding below, with hills, gorges and streams on either side. It is one of the wettest places in Kerala, so in the monsoon the view can disappear into cloud.
Plan your visit
- Stop on the way in from Kozhikode or combine it with Pookode Lake and the Chain Tree.
- Pull fully off the road; ghat traffic is fast.
- Do not feed the monkeys.
