Our tip
One of Kerala's most ancient Vishnu temples, in the Brahmagiri foothills. The Papanasini river beside it is crystal clear and sacred. Go before 7 AM and sit by the river for 20 minutes before the crowds arrive. One of the most peaceful spots in all of Wayanad. From our guest guidebook

What to expect
The temple is believed to be more than a thousand years old. Look for the stone lamp structure and the granite water channel that carries spring water into the temple. A short walk leads to Papanasini, a mountain stream where pilgrims perform bali (ancestral rites).
Plan your visit
- Go early, before 7 AM, and sit by the stream before the crowds.
- Dress conservatively; men may be asked to remove shirts inside, and leather items are not allowed.
- It is a long drive from Coffee Haven, so pair it with Tholpetty or Kuruvadweep.
Festivals
Karkidaka Vavu (July or August) brings thousands of pilgrims for ancestral rites at Papanasini from the early hours; expect traffic controls that day.
